Tomorrow, 7:17am EDT, Endeavour is launching for the ISS. With 7 people aboard. Yes. There are already 6 people on the ISS. There are going to be, for a few days at least, 13. That's a whole frigging lot of people. Also: 13? Spoooooooky~!
The mission's main purpose is to install the Japanese Kibo Lab Module, which is going to be used for performing experiments on object which need to be outside the station, out in the harsh sea of stars, at it were.
Someone want to call me at like 7 and make sure I'm awake to watch?

So yeah... hello internet. What's up?
I've been fairly bummed out lately, and therefore non-communicative, but I suppose I'm feeling a bit better today. Let's give a report, shall we?
Lately, I've been trying to read again! I used to read a whole lot when I was younger, but something about FSU, I guess, somehow pulled me away from it for a long while. I decided, though, to take a look at my Great Treasury of Science Fiction, a two volume anthology of Sci-Fi works, primarily short stories from the 30s-50s. It's been very awesome so far. Looking at the past's future is an incredibly insightful thing at times.
What else... mmm... E3? I've only paid mild attention to it, but there have been a few announcements of note to me. Let me try to classify them simplistically as such:
Good: Super Mario Galaxy 2 New Super Mario Bros. Wii Bad: My first impression of Metroid: Other M (Team Ninja is making it. The same Team Ninja that brought us Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball is making a Metroid game. My dear Samus, what have they done to you? First the Zero Suit, and now... YOU SWINDLER!) FFXIV is another MMO. Ugh. Ugly: Sony's laughable new controller concept. No real information about the next Zelda other than that it's in the works and we'll hear about it next year.
Also, I just finished watching, today, the original EatMan series. There's a whole lot of "What? What just happened?" in pretty much every single episode, but I none-the-less enjoyed it. I also have begun reading a rather horribly translated version of the manga. I rather like it. Right now Bolt is fighting... G-G-Griffith?

9:51 am - Birthday time!~
|
Guess which two giant fluff-cats turn two years old today!~ If you guessed Blackbeard and Taggart... you are correct! Hooray for birthday kitties! I wanted to post a big picture of them like I did last year, but unfortunately I lack a camera! Oh noes! Maybe we can use Priti's low-res camera phone to get a picture later today, if I can figure out how to work the darn thing.
Aside from that... it was recently Kyrstan's birthday! And Forrest and Karl both have birthdays coming up as well! Also Greg, who does not have a livejournal for me to point at! What's up with people born in May? TOO MANY!
Relatedly, though, I should be up in Tallahassee this Sat/Sun for the birthday-related funs of both Forrest and Greg. If you're reading this, there's a good chance you've been invited to one or both of those events as well, in which case I hope to see you there! If you haven't been invited... JUST SHOW UP ANYWAY! MWAHAHAA! I'll say "It's cool, he/she is with me!" and then fun shall ensue.
Now back to hanging out with me kitties. Er, I mean... working. Right. Dang.
UPDATE:
Blurry Birthday Buddies!

I am so upset. I mean... I read the latest volumes yesterday, and I'm still so upset. You think that scene in Berserk is bad? (You know the one.) Well... yeah, it is. But for me at least, this was much more upsetting.
I mean.... yeah.
Uhmm.... everyone go read Vinland Saga now.

8:06 pm - Buffalo Zombie
|
|
Just to let everyone who knew her know, Buffalo Zombie (Chris' and my cat from Palmer) died this morning at about 1am. I hadn't seen her since she left Palmer with Chris, but I'm still really sad. She could be a grump, but was a good kitty.

10:39 pm - Status Update.
|
This world conquest stuff is a lot harder than I expected.
I have managed to conquer about three quarters of my back yard, though; wresting control back from the weeds which had previously overwhelmed it.
Next Fri/Sat is FreeCon up there in Tally-land, yes? Anyone going? Should we make a visit? Should I try for a third consecutive victory at Anime Name-That-Tune? Anything else going on that weekend?

Just another quick update. Got moved down to Alachua... we've been really busy cleaning and moving stuff and setting up utilities and whatnot, on top of trying to actually get some work done. We don't have internet yet... but it's supposed to be turned on by Thursday night? I dunno... hopefully a big update once we've got that.

10:47 am - There are quite a few things I could say...
|
...such as Happy St. Patrick's Day, for one. I could talk about moderating for the highschool Brain Bowl contest last Friday and Saturday and how much fun that was. Or I could talk about how I got a job working for Size8 Software down in Alachua, or how Priti and I found a nice-ish little house for rent and are in the process of moving down there. Instead, though, what I'll say is:
Greetings, from Tallahassee Memorial Hospital! Wee~!
So here's the scoop. Saturday afternoon: Headache. Starts gettig worse. Then a stomache ache too. Then that gets A LOT worse. Some failed attempts at medication later, skip to Sunday morning and me throwing up everything I'd eaten in about 24 hours. So I drink a bunch of fuids.... and throw them up too. More failed medications, and skip to Monday morning. Emergency room. Sitting around for hours and hours while in a huge amount of abdominal pain. You probably know the generall drill. Anyway... tests and medication and whatnot later, here's what seems to be the problem: Some of you know the story of me and my epic appendixplosion back in Deccember of '94, and all the surgery and hospitalization that went with it. Apparently this is another side effect of that. Scar tissue in my intestines seems to have built up a bit and blocked off... you know.... stuff that needs to not be blocked off if you want to be alive. So now I've got and IV pumping fluids into me and something else pumping stuff out. They won't let me eat or drink, so for those of you keeping track, last time I ate was Saturday. I'm on some fairly steady pain killers to keep me from returning to a useless writhing mass. And... mmm.. that's about that. Oh, and this outward-bound pump is via my nose and is about the most uncomfortable thing ever.
With all that out of the way, I think I'm going to lay back down now... time for the Price is Right, the official show to watch when in the hospital!

4:54 pm - You need words?
|
So, got an email today... not gonna get the awesome bee job. Puu. I'm very happy, though, that at least they gave me the courtesy of telling me. Not a single programming job I've ever applied for has ever done that. Most never even confirm that they received an application to begin with. It really sucks.
Mmm... what else? Been working on a little game programing project with Greg and some TCC folks... it's kinda cool. Gives me a reason to code, for sure, and that's something I need. Going a year or more without touching code when I'm trying to get a job is not a great idea.
I have not been very creative or insightful of late, hence the chronic lack of posting. This probably won't change any time soon. Just saying.
Oh yes, but in the cool news department, I will probably be moderating this year's high school Brain Bowl competition. I'm pretty excited... always loved Brain Bowl, and I was pretty sad when I stopped playing. I could have played for two more years, but... seriously? FSU's team? No thanks, guys.
Oh yes, and Keath paid for a month's worth of Eve Online for me, so we've been playing that some lately. Great game... it'll be even cooler when the new expansion stuffs come out... Tech 3 cruisers, skill queue... fun-ness.
I hunger.
